Thus, it really is difficult to play down the influence that John B. Bachelder has had upon the way we understand and compartmentalize the Battle of Gettysburg. Something tells me that, at this very moment, his soul is marching on as the commemoration surrounding the battle’s most important day – July 2, – : Jimmy Price.   Lots of overlap in the lists, which is a good thing. The most interesting takeaway from these lists is how they describe the importance of the Bachelder Papers, but that reference is not readily available. Some publisher needs to fix that.

Brett Schulte, TOCWOC – A Civil War Blog: “I went back and forth on whether to include this title in my Top 10 Gettysburg Books list, but in the end the positives outweighed the negatives. Martin’s book to me is a better representation of the July 1 fighting at Gettysburg than Harry Pfanz’ similarly titled book. Chris Bachelder (born ) is an American writer, e-book pioneer and frequent contributor to the publications McSweeney's Quarterly Concern and The Believer.. Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, he grew up in Christiansburg, attended Virginia Tech (BA, ) and the University of Florida at Gainesville (MFA, ).. Bachelder has taught fiction writing and literature courses at Born: (age 47–48).

David L. and Audrey J. Ladd turned the Bachelder papers and eye-witness accounts into another book: "The Bachelder Papers: Gettysburg in Their Own Words." Although some of Bachelder's works are out of print, crafty Internet surfers can find many relevant volumes and maps available for sale. Scott Mingus has done an outstanding job of documenting these events in a readable book. I am little bit biased; I wrote the introduction to this book. However, it is one of my favorites and would be even if I hadn’t written the introduction. 9. The Bachelder Papers. These are three volumes of correspondence by participants in the battle.
